Henry A. (Hank) Ball, MBA, CVS

Henry (Hank) Ball is the founder and President of Ball Associates, Inc. and a Senior Associate with J. J. Kaufman Associates, Inc. He is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA. earning a Baccalaureate in accounting and an MBA.

As a value management practitioner for over fifteen years Hank has facilitated a broad spectrum of value studies, developing innovative approaches to organizational decision making tasks and managing a program to provide seed money for the development of Value Engineering Change Proposals (VECPs). 

Hank retired as the Value Management process manager for the Phantom Works operating group of the Boeing Company to form Ball Associates, Inc.  He joined Boeing in 1985 after a twenty-one year Air Force career where he served as a Flight Examiner Pilot on C-130s and a “Hurricane Hunter” in WC-130s. Other Air Force duties included Tactical Airlift Advisor to the Royal Saudi Air Force, ROTC instructor at Manhattan College in New York, leader of the Airlift Control Element and then Chief, Combat Operations for the 62nd Airlift Wing, McChord AFB.

At Boeing, Hank was assigned to numerous programs, most notably as the manager of the Logistics and Training volumes on the winning 747 Air Force One proposal.  He began his focus on value management while at Boeing.  He quickly developed an ability to identify opportunities for value improvements and, by following the SAVE International Value Methodology Standard, facilitated teams in achieving positive results. 

A sample of projects Hank facilitated at Boeing and since the formation of Ball Associates, Inc. includes:

  • Design, assembly and installation of a commercial airplane floor structure,
  • Requirements setting, procurement and installation of passenger seats, in-flight entertainment and interior systems,
  • Time compression of flight and ground test programs,
  • Assembly of a missile wiring system,
  • Manufacturing and procurement process for high pressure/temperature pneumatic ducts on a high by-pass turbo fan engine,
  • Workforce management evaluation and decision criteria,
  • Development of a rapid response process to address engineering defects identified during electrical wiring installation in airplane production, 
  • Design of a gas-to-liquid pilot plant facility,
  • Redesign of a Navy Close-In-Weapon-system control panels, and
  • Design Charrette of a 38 unit-housing complex for US Army Corps of Engineers.

Hank is a recognized expert in VECP contract development and settlements. VECPs at Boeing contributed an average $500,000 in royalties annually to the company’s bottom line.  Additionally, he served over four years as Chairman, Electronic Industries Alliance/ Value Management Group.

Hank is the recipient of numerous decorations from his military service, was named the "Rising Star" award winner in 1997 by SAVE International and was recognized by the Department of Defense in 1998 for special achievements in the field of Value Engineering.
